Game reports.
Penlon beat Ab.Con.Club 5-1 for their 4th win of the season with legs of 13-13 12-11 14-9. For Ab.Con.Club T.Barrett topped with 9 B.Clapton & P.Barrett 7. For Penlon T.Lach & P.Stone 9, I.Morrison 8 and E.Jefferies 7. Mick Haynes joined the ‘Ceiling Clouter Club’ this week – I think he needs the repair work!
Spread Eagle A beat a valiant Ab.Utd C 6-0 with legs 10-9 13-6 11-7. For Ab.Utd C no-one 7-upped but Jim and Tony managed 6 each but I won’t mention them as they can try harder even though we know they’re only here for the beer! For Spread Eagle A J.Bowler 10, A.Humphries & S.Kinnaid 7.
Ab.Utd A secured their 13th win beating The Heathens 6-0 with legs 15-10 15-13 16-11. For The Heathens (Tosh might have helped) D.Butler topped with 10, D.Holmes 8 and A.Bell 7. For Ab.Utd A D.Dix 11, D.Davies & B.Parker 10, B.Duff 9.
Spread Eagle B beat Ab.Utd B 6-0 with legs 17-7 16-12 15-11. For Ab.Utd B S.Martin and Captain D.Harris topped with 8 (one more Ken and you’d have been mentioned). For the Spread Eagle B, like the dwarves they were all 7-up with N.Weston putting 2×5’s in his 13, B.Stowell & L.Clapton 10, R.Nichols 8 and S.Enoch 7.
A four-man Old Masters managed to snatch 2 points off Ab.Legion when Captain and Anchor D.Sapey succumbed to the pressure of a 3 to win (getting X) in the last leg to only give his team a 4-2 win. Leg scores were 10-4 11-8 and 6-8. For Old Master J.Lesiakowski topped with 8. For Ab.Legion P.Ealey 8 and B.Lacey 7. (Thanks OM – that gives us Penlon lads a chance!)
Regards
Paul
P.S. Don’t forget Tosh is back this week so be on your best behaviour.
Previously In The Winter League…..
As you know we played the Week 9 Old Masters vs The Heathens match while Tosh was on holiday to catch up with the game that was postponed.
The Heathens beat Old Masters 6-0 with leg scores of 14-10 13-12 18-15. For Old Masters M ‘new heart’ Beachey top scored with 10 and A.Pocock, S.Skelly and J.Lesiakowski 7 each which were nice scores for them but not enough. For The Heathens D.Holmes 3x4s for 12, D.Butler & B.Adams 10 and A.Bell 8. Maybe they didn’t need Tosh after all…..

With this match done the tables are all square (that’s a geometry pun as we all know they are actually rectangular).
Singles Competition
We also played the last few rounds of the Singles competition and the players through to the Semi-Finals are:-
D.Butler, B.Parker, S.Martin and N.Weston
I think we’d all agree that the best match was the quarter final between D.Dix and B.Parker (the rest were, quite honestly, a bit hit and miss – but that’s what singles is all about – the taking part).
In previous games of the night they were both doing enough to get through 3s and 4s so we all knew the anti would have to be upped in this match. Barry set with a glorious 1 which Dave doubled – so much for the ‘practice’ leg!
Barry then set a 5 which Dave uncharacteristically only got 4 in reply missing his last two sticks. Dave then set with a 5 and we thought it might be all over. The pressure was on the Iceman to deliver a full house for a place in the semi final. Well the room fell silent as he threw 5 sticks winning 5 dolls and erupted as he cracked the 6th doll off. Well done to both players for some excellent sticks.
The semi-final draw will be made on Finals Night.
