Founders & Legends Trophy

Well, the league season is now in the past and we will be recapping the season on the website in the next couple of days, with all of the highlights and lowlights shared across all of the sections. There were lots of highlights, a few lowlights and for us, your Committee and a few learning points that we need to plan to minimise or eliminate before the 2027 season commences. Lessons learnt and repeats to be avoided!

For now as the Summer draws to a close we focus on our Competitions. Last Wednesday saw the finals of the Skol Trophy 8’s competition, the Red Drive 3’s, the Team 4’s the team and 5’s all played at Abingdon United FC.

That leaves us with just the singles and pairs semi finals and finals which will be the forerunner to our Presentation Night at Abingdon United FC on Friday 16th October with a 7.30 start. Before then this Wednesday will see many, of our over 50’s (most of us I fear) have the opportunity to compete for the Founders & Legends Trophy, a trophy which owes it’s origins to those who founded our Association back in 1960 and the many great Aunt Sally players who are, sadly, no longer with us, but whose memory are often recalled and their exploits shared amongst their former teammates and opponents. So this is a very special memorial trophy donated by our former Chairman Reg Couch.

Arrangements for Wednesday’s evening’s event to be held at Abingdon Conservative Club is that registration is on the night, but all participating players need to register before 7.15pm, play will commence at 7.30 sharp and the format is a straight knock out with no handicap. All games will be the best of 3 legs. If you want to practice beforehand be sure to arrive early enough to get a throw or two in!

The winner will have the honour of sharing their success with so many former great players who have competed for, and won this trophy, over the many years that Aunt Sally has graced our Summers!
