Game reports.
‘A funny old game’ saw Penlon beat 4 man Ab. Legion 4-2 with leg scores of 12-13, 13-12, 14-8. For Penlon P.Wright 9 and I.Morrison 8, with Ian needing a 5 to win the 1st leg clanged off the first 4 only to miss with the last 2, then when needing 1 to win the 2nd leg left it to the last stick to do so. For The Legion S.Champ 8 & C.Brind included a 3rd leg blob in his 7. Like I said ‘It’s a funny …………
Ab. Utd. ‘B’ beat Ab. Utd. ‘C’ 4-2 with legscores of 12-8, 16-10, 8-12. For Utd. ‘B’ D.Harris 7 & M.Putt 6. For Utd. ‘C’ M.Ashmall & M.James 7 each. M.Fenton had the dreaded X-X-X, cow’s a**e and banjo springs to mind.
Spread Eagle ‘A’ beat a below par Spread ‘B’ 6-0. The leg scores were 14-13, 15-11, 14-11. For Spread ‘A’ J.Simmons 10, J.Bowler 8, B.Newman 7, J Gapper & S.Kinnaird each hit 6. In reply for Spread ‘B’ R.Nicholls & L.Clapton 8 each and S.Enock 6.
Ab. Con. Club’s fixtures have been a bit unkind to them with them having to face Ab. Utd. ‘A’ last week and The Heathens this week and suffered another 6-0 defeat, but looking on the bright side it can only get better – can’t it ? The leg scores were 16-10, 19-13, 16-11. For Con. Club D.Coles & P.Barrett top scored with 6 apiece. For The Heathens P.Adams making his ‘winter league’ debut included a first leg 6 in his 13, B.Townsend 12, the rejuvenated T.Downes 11, D.Holmes 9 and P.Longford 6.
Ab. Utd. ‘A’ dropped a leg against The Vine thanks to a second leg 1 (yes one) from Barry when needing 3 to draw. The leg scores were 20-13, 14-16, 18-13. For Utd. ‘A’ Phil ‘Smokin’ Soden 13, D.Dix 12, K.Fisher 11, D.Davies & B.Parker 8 each. In reply for The Vine M.Dingle, D.Hamilton & J.Pownceby all hit 8 dolls.
