Game reports.
With a new handicap system in place the new season kicked off with The Heathens having to come from a leg down to beat an inspired Ab. Utd.’ C’ 4-2 with leg scores of 14-19, 18-15, 16-13. For The Heathens B.Townsend, P.Longford & T.Downes 10 each, D.Butler & D.Holmes 9 each. In reply for Utd.’ C’ Irishman Jon O’Warrell top scored with 12 dolls, M.James 9, M.Ashmall 7 and new boy Ian Cummings hit 6 but blotted his copybook with a 3rd leg blob.
Spread Eagle’ A’ beat Ab. Utd. ‘B’ 4-2 with leg scores of 14-12, 19-10, 13-14. For The Spread the returning J.Simmons top scored with 11 dolls, S.Kinnaird 10, close season signing I.Brown 7, J.Gapper & J.Bowler 6 each. For Utd. ‘B’ Dave ‘Bomber’ Harris hit 8 & S.Martin 6.
Newcomers The Vine earned a 3-3 draw with Penlon with leg scores of 14-14, 13-15, 14-9. For The Vine J.Pownceby 9, M.Dingle included a blob in his 8 and J.Hamilton 7.For Penlon D.Bellcourt & I.Morrison 7 each and another returnee (is that actually a word) P.Stone 6
Ab. Utd. ‘A’ beat Ab. Con. Club 6-0 with leg scores of 13-9, 20-10, 20-13. For Utd. ‘A’ D.Dix 13, K.Fisher (also making a comeback) recorded the first 6 of the season in his 10, P.Soden (obtained on a free transfer),D.Davies and B.Parker all hit 10 dolls also. For Con. Club B.Clapton (the best of a bad bunch) hit 7 and P.Barrett 6.
Spread Eagle ‘B’ beat Ab. Legion 4-2 with leg sores of 15-13, 15-17, 19-16. For Spread ‘B’ A.Bell & L.Clapton 10 each, S.Enock 9, I.Brook 8 and ‘Jolly’ Roger Nicholls 6. For The Legion S.Champ 10, C.Brind 9 and P.Ealey hit 8.
