About Paul Stone

A newcomer to the game (only been playing since 2005!) I played for the Fox Steventon (until 2016) and through the cajoling of Martin Sheridan and Graham Barguss setup the first proper website building on what Graham Brown had done with just scores which has now redeveloped into this version including electronic scoring (thanks to James Barguss!) I also previously took the snaps on finals night and created the Aunt Sally TV section on YouTube. Oh, and I got us on the telly with Mud Men on the History channel and promoted Aunt Sally at my wedding! In 2024 I got on Radio 5 Live's Gordon Smart show talking about Aunt Sally and its history and on BBC Radio Oxford at the World Aunt Sally Championship. In 2023 after returning to the committee they voted me as Chairman. I'll do my best to improve the League.

Game reports.

The Heathens and four man Spread Eagle ‘C’ kicked off the new year with The Heathens running out 6-0 winners. The leg scores were 18-7, 17-4, 13-5. For Heathens D.Holmes 13, A.Woolloff 11, D.Butler 10, B.Townsend & P.Longford 7 each with Barry failing to hit double figures for the first time. In reply for Spread ‘C’ I.Brown & B.Robbins 6 each. A.Webb playing only his 2^nd game managed 1 in the 3^rd leg to avoid the dreaded X-X-X.

Spread Eagle ‘B’ beat Ab. Legion 6-0 with leg scores of 10-8, 18-11, 20-16. For Spread ‘B’ L.Clapton 12, N.Weston included a 6 in his 11, I.Brook 9, B.Stowell & R.Nicholls 8 each. For The Legion D.Sapey 10, C.Brind 9, P.Ealey 7 & N.Hazell 6.

Penlons’ equall lowest total of season (30) was enough to overcome Ab. Utd. ‘B’ 4-2 with leg scores of 12-9, 6-11, 12-10. T.Lach top scored for Penlon with 9, P.Wright & D.Bellcourt 7 each. For Utd ‘B’ S.Martin 10 (his first double of season), A.Gregory & R.Taylor 6 each. That was Alans’ first indoor game since 25^th March 2015.

Ab. Con. Club beat Ab. Utd. ‘C’ 4-2 with leg scores of 14-6, 10-7, 11-12. For Con. Club B.Clapton 10 (including a slightly dodgy 3 in the 3^rd leg), M.Neal 9, P.Wiblin 7 & D.Todd 6. In reply for Utd. ‘C’ ‘Big Bad Jon’ Warrell hit 10 dolls (his first double of season) including a 3^rd leg 5 to clinch the leg. Claire Foster managed just 1 doll – she tries, bless her.

Spread Eagle ‘A’ came from a leg down to beat Ab. Utd. ‘A’ 4-2 with leg scores of 14-15, 19-18, 16-13. For The Spread J.Gapper 13, B.Newman & J. Bowler 9 each & S.Kinnaird 7 each. For Utd. ‘A’ D.Davies & D.Dix 11 each, B.Parker 9, B.Duff 8 & T.Ward 7. Even without the handicap The Spread would have recorded their highest total so far this season.

Ab. Legion got back to winning ways and beat Ab. Utd. ‘C’ 6-0 with leg scores of 11-3, 13-12, 16-10 and Utd. ‘C’ recorded 4 blobs in that first leg. For The Legion C.Brind 11, P.Ealey & N.Hazell 8 each, S.Champ 7 & D.Sapey 6. In reply for Utd. ‘C’ C.Foster & M.James 6 each.

Ab. Utd. ‘A’ beat Ab. Utd. ‘B’ 6-0 with leg scores of 15-13, 15-13, 17-10. For Utd. ‘A’ D.Dix hit an impressive 6-5-4, B.Duff & B.Parker 9 each, T.Ward &D.Davies 7 each. In reply for Utd. ‘B’ M.Putt 8, K.Empson & S.Martin 7 each & R.Taylor 6.

Ab. Con. Club p***** on The Heathens chips by taking points from them. The score was 2-4 with leg scores of 11-14, 7-17, 14-11. For Con. Club B.Clapton top scored with 10 and an inspiring 3^rd leg 5, P.Barrett 8 & D.Todd 7. For The Heathens B.Townsend included a 6 in his 14 dolls, D.Butler, P.Longford & A.Woolloff 8 each.

Spread Eagle ‘A’ beat Spread ‘C’ 4-2 with leg scores of 14-6, 12-10, 9-10. For Spread ‘A’ B.Newman 9, J.Bowler 8, S.Kinnaird & S.Humphries 7 each. For Spread ‘C’ S.Bonthron & P.Soden 7 each.

Penlon beat Spread Eagle ‘B’ 4-2 and Spread ‘B’s total of 33 was their lowest so far. The leg scores were 12-9, 8-12, 13-`12. For Penlon T.Lach recorded his first double figures (11), I.Morrison 8 including a 3^rd leg 4 to clinch the win & E.Jeffries hit 7. In reply for Spread ‘B’ N.Weston included a 6 in his 12, B.Stowell & A.Bell 6 each.

p.s. Almost half way through the season and I beg the questions :- Can Utd. ‘A’ overcome the Heathens and the handicap to win league for 4^th time in a row ?? Will Ab. Legion run away with the ‘B’ section ?? Will Ab. Utd. ‘C’ win a game this season ?? Does anyone actually give a s*** ??
